RAMADAN- The Month of Fasting

First of all, I'd like to wish all my Muslim blogger friends a very happy and prosperous Ramzan. May you all have an easy and peaceful month of fasting. InshAllah

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎ Ramaḍān, Arabic pronunciation: [rɑmɑdˤɑːn]) (also Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual activities from dawn until sunset.[1] Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility, and spirituality. It is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, trans: Allah) and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. As compared to the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving backwards about ten days each year depending on the moon. Muslims believe Ramadan to be the month in which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.[2]

We broke our fast with a very yummy glass of Falooda/Faluda during Iftar (breaking fast at sunset) which I made myself at home.

Here is the recipe for you all. Have fun!

1/2 cup fine vermicelli1 glass chilled milk - use a tall or dessert glass you will use to serve the Falooda.
1/2 cup almonds, blanched/ skins removed
1/2 cup Tapioca
sugar, ground to a fine powder (For dissolving faster)
6 tbsps rose syrup/Rooh Afza
Crushed Ice (Optional)
2 scoops ice cream of your choicePreapared Jello ( I used 100% HALAL jello here as the topping)
Fruits of your choice for topping

Boil the vermicelli like you would pasta - in boiling water and till cooked yet al dente! Strain and keep aside to cool. Then chill in refrigerator till needed.

Boil the tapioca in hot water until they look transparent. Strain from water and set aside in a bowl for chilling.

Keep aside a few almonds - about 6-8 each - and cut into thin slivers. Keep aside to use as a garnish later.

Put the milk, powdered sugar, almonds in a blender and blend till smooth. Chill in the refrigerator.

To assemble the Falooda:

In each glass, put half the vermicelli, half the tapioca seeds.
Now pour in half the milk over them. Put just under half the rose syrup (keep a little for garnishing with) in each glass and mix well.
Add a scoop of ice cream to this and drizzle with some more rose syrup/Rooh Afza.

Sprinkle some crushed ice for the extra coolness!

Add fruits and Jello toppingsGarnish with slivered almonds.
Add a straw and long-handled spoon and serve!
